Annual Festivals

Spréacha, Fingal’s Annual International Arts Festival for Children.

This is a unique event in the cultural life of Fingal, a festival that has been specifically designed for children. Spreácha, which means ‘Spark’ or ‘Sparkles’, invites professional companies and performers from countries throughout Europe and further afield to Draíocht to perform.  National population statistics reveal that Fingal has one of the largest youth populations of any county in Ireland and this important cultural event takes account of that fact, in catering for their cultural needs. Over the last six years ‘Spreácha’ has risen to become one the premier children’s theatre festivals.

Fingal County Council programmes an annual literary festival Finscéal - A Writer’s Trail of Fingal. 

This programme aimed and readers’ and writers’ co-ordinated in partnership Fingal County Libraries as part of our commitment to provide equal access to arts activities and encourage and foster creative writing in Fingal.

A specialised programme of events and workshops is created each year as a direct result of feedback received from the readers’ and writers’ groups in Fingal.  The most popular of these is the Murder Mystery Day ! Set in the beautiful setting that is Ardgillan.  You collect clues, meet fellow sleuths or work alone to solve the crime.  You can enjoy lunch at the drama unfolds and take in the beautiful and rustic surroundings of Ardgillan.

The festival takes place in venues throughout Fingal over a three week period in September.

Bealtaine seeks to encourage greater participation in Arts by older people as artists, performers, event organisers and audiences – sometimes this work takes place throughout the year and culminates in May.  The festival is a global cultural first, made here in Ireland and it embraces all art forms including theatre, literature, dance, film, storytelling, music, painting, sculpture and critical events.

In Fingal a series of traditional house parties in the style of “The Rambling House” in the pantry of the Seamus Ennis Cultural Centre,  the audience are invited to perform, tell a story, sing a song, dance or recite a poem.
